Alexander Volkov was impressive in his Bellator debut with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Strikeforce-veteran Brett Rogers in the opening round of heavyweight tournament. The win was eighth in a row, including a decision over former UFC heavyweight champion, Ricco Rodriguez.

Vinicius Kappe de Queiroz earned a first round submission victory over Mark Holata in the opening round of the tournament at Bellator 75. The win was his first, since being released by the UFC for failing a post-fight drug test after losing a third round decision to Rob Broughton at UFC 120.

Thiago Santos earned a spot in the semifinals, following another bizarre finish with Eric Prindle. This time, Santos earned the DQ victory following a brutal axe kick to the groin that left him unable to continue the fight. Santos last legit victory was against Neil Grove by submission at Bellator 56.

Bellator staple, Richard Hale won his third consecutive fight inside the cage with first round TKO over Mike Wessel in the quarterfinals at Bellator 75. It was Hale’s first appearance at heavyweight, following a 4-1 stint in the light heavyweight division.
