Bellator’s welterweight champion, Ben Askren shed his “wrestler only” stigma, with a vicious mauling of Karl Amoussou to earn a third round TKO victory at Bellator 86. It was the third time Askren has defended his title since winning it in October of 2010, also defeating Jay Hieron and Douglas Lima.

Andrey Koreshkov earns a shot at Bellator gold after becoming season seven’s tournament champion, following three consecutive victories over Jordan Smith, Marius Zaromskis, and Lyman Good. He remains undefeated in his young mixed martial arts career, a perfect 13-0 with eleven of those victories coming by way of stoppages (8 TKO, 3 submission).

Douglas Lima is one win away from becoming the first two-time tournament champion in Bellator. He won the season five welterweight tournament in 2011, defeating Steve Carl, Chris Lozano, and Ben Saunders to earn a shot at champion Ben Askren, but lost a hard fought decision at Bellator 64. This year, Lima earned victories over Michail Tsarev and Bryan Baker for his place in the finals.

Ben Saunders earned a spot in this year’s welterweight tournament final, by defeating Koffi Adzitso and Raul Amaya in the opening rounds. He’s won three straight fights in Bellator since losing to Bryan Baker in the semifinals of season five’s tournament.
