Alexander Shlemenko became Bellator’s second middleweight champion at Bellator 88, stopping Maiquel Falcao in the second round by knockout. Shlemenko has been with Bellator since the beginning and has amassed an impressive 8-1 record with the promotion, with his only loss being a decision loss to former champion Hector Lombard in October of 2010.

Brett Cooper had a five-fight win streak ended in the season eight’s middleweight tournament finale, suffering a first round knockout loss to Doug Marshall at Bellator 95. But, Marshall broke his hand while training for his fight with Shlemenko and Cooper will replace him for a shot at the world title.
