Alexander Gustafsson came up just short on his bid at becoming the UFC’s light heavyweight champion, losing a razor-thin decision against Jon Jones at UFC 165 in a “Fight of the Year” candidate. The loss to Jones snapped a six-fight win streak, which included key victories over James Te Huna, Thiago Silva, and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira put himself back in the top echelon of the UFC’s light heavyweight division with an upset win over Rashad Evans at UFC 156. The win was his second in a row, including a first round TKO victory over Tito Ortiz.

Also, a rematch between Melvin Guillard and Ross Pearson has been scheduled, following a no-contest ruling between the two at UFC Fight Night 30. The fight was halted after Guillard landed two questionable illegal knees to Pearson’s head causing a massive cut on his forehead. Referee Marc Goddard ruled the second blow to be illegal, but replay showed Guillard was in the process of throwing the knee before Pearson had his hand on the ground. Nonetheless, the doctor’s stopped the fight for the cut and the bout was ruled a no contest.
