Alexander Volkov lost his heavyweight title at Bellator 108, suffering a first round knockout loss to Vitaly Minakov. The loss snapped a ten-fight win streak, including his season seven tournament run, where he beat Brett Rogers, Vinicius Queiroz, and Richard Hale in consecutive fights to win the vacant title at the time.

Mark Hoata returns to action for the first time since October of 2012, when he lost by first round armbar to Vinicius Queiroz in the quarterfinals of season seven’s heavyweight tournament. It was his second tournament loss in the quarterfinal, also losing to Ron Sparks via first round knockout in season five’s tourney in 2o11.

Lavar Johnson’s Bellator debut didn’t go quite as planned, after getting knocked out in the first round by Vinicius Queiroz in the quarterfinals of season nine’s heavyweight tournament. The loss was his third in a row, including back-t0-back losses against Stefan Struve and Brendan Schaub which prompted his release from the UFC in February of last year.

Ryan Martinez had a three-fight win streak snapped in the semifinals of last year’s tournament, with a third round TKO loss to eventual winner and newly crowned champion, Vitaly Minakov. He had previously earned Bellator victories over Manny Lara, Travis Wiuff, and Richard Hale.
