Titan Fighting Championships new CEO, Jeff Aronson, announced today that the Kansas City based fight promotion has signed a multi-year television deal with CBS Sports Network and are expected to have eight shows in 2014. The first will be Titan FC 27, headlined by two UFC veterans, Mike Ricci and Jorge Gurgel. Also announced for the card will be another UFC veteran, Kurt Holobaugh (9-2) taking on Eric Marriott (22-7).
Mike Ricci was released from the UFC in September of last year, following a 1-2 record inside the octagon. He made it to the final of the sixteenth season of the Ultimate Fighter tournament, but lost a decision to Colton Smith on the live finale. He defeated TUF: Smashes runner-up Colin Fletcher by unanimous decision, before a decision loss to Myles Jury at UFC 165 prompted his release.
Once a fan favorite, Jorge Gurgel hasn’t seen much success in his mixed martial arts career in some time, going just 3-7 in his last ten professional fights. He competed on the final Strikeforce card, but lost to Adriano Martins by unanimous decision. Gurgel’s last victory came March of 2011, when he submitted Billy Vaughan in just 44-seconds at Strikeforce: Feijao vs Henderson.
Notable Wins: Yoshiro Maeda, Takeya Mizugaki, Antonio Banuelos
Former WEC bantamweight champion, Miguel Torres has signed with Titan Fighting Championships and is expect to debut on their November 2nd show.
Miguel Torres had mixed success in the UFC since the WEC merger, going 2-2 inside the octagon. He was released from the promotion earlier in the year for making inappropriate statements on Twitter, but was brought back after apologizing and “handling his business like a man.” Most recently Torres met rising star, Michael McDonald at UFC 145, and suffered a brutal knockout in the first round.
