Patricio Freire fell short on his bid to become a Bellator world champion, losing a hard fought split decision to Pat Curran at Bellator 85. The loss snapped a three-fight win streak, which included tournament victories over Georgi Karakhanyan, Wilson Reis, and Daniel Straus.

Diego Nunes was surprisingly released from his UFC contract following a unanimous decision loss to Nik Lentz at UFC on FX 7. Nunes went 3-3 during his time in the UFC, which included victories over Mike Brown, Manny Gamburyan, and Bart Palaszewski.

Much like Freire, Shahbulat Shamhalaev lost his chance on becoming Bellator’s featherweight champion, getting submitted in the first round by Pat Curran at Bellator 95. It was only his second career loss, and it ended a six-fight win streak which included tournament victories over Cody Bollinger, Mike Richman, and Rad Martinez.

Akop Stepanyan rebounded from a controversial majority decision loss to Marlon Sandro in the quarterfinals of season eight’s featherweight tourney, with a third round TKO win over Ultimate Fighter alumni Chris Saunders at Bellator 92.

Two-time featherweight tournament finalist, Marlon Sandro enters the Bellator tournament for the third time in his career. In season four, he won back-to-back wins against Genair Da Silva and Nazareno Malegarie to book himself in the finale, but was knocked out in the second round by eventual champion Pat Curran. Sandro returned for the 2012 Summer Series, beating Roberto Vargas and Alexandre Bezerra to once again reach the finals, but this time it was Daniel Straus earning the unanimous decision victory over him.

Akop Stepanyan returns for the second time in a Bellator tournament, exiting season seven’s tournament in the opening round with a first round submission loss to Wagnney Fabiano. The loss snapped a twelve-fight win streak, dating back to November of 2009.

Fabricio Guerreiro began his mixed martial arts career an impressive 12-0 before suffering his first professional loss to Rafael Addario Bastos in July of 2011. He has since rattled off four more wins, including earning redemption against Bastos with a third round submission victory a month after his loss.

Magomedrasul Khasbulaev has been nothing short of extraordinary in his first two fights stateside. In his Bellator debut, he dispatched of Nayeb Hezam in just 24-seconds via TKO. Khasbulaev returned at Bellator 79, earning a first round submission victory over Josh Pulsifer.
