Attila Vegh became the second Bellator light heavyweight champion in promotional history, with a unanimous decision win over Christian M’Pumbu in February of last year. Vegh earned a shot at the title with three straight wins in the 2012 Summer Series tournament over Zelg Galesic, Emanuel Newton, and Travis Wiuff.

Emanuel Newton proved his February win over former Strikeforce champion, Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal wasn’t a fluke, earning a dominant unanimous decision victory in the rematch to win the interim light heavyweight championship. Newton has won four-straight fights, including his season eight tournament run.
