Saad Awad returns to a Bellator tournament semifinal after a first round submission victory over Martin Stapleton at Bellator 101. Last season, Awad was a late replacement into the tournament, but defeated Guillaume DeLorenzi and Will Brooks to make it to the tournament finals, but lost to David Rickels by second round TKO.

Will Brooks gets the opportunity to rematch Saad Awad, the guy who eliminated him in the semifinals of last season’s tournament, thanks to a dominant unanimous decision victory over John Alessio in the quarterfinals. Brooks has now won two fights in a row since losing to Awad in February of this year, also getting a TKO victory over Chris Leyva at Bellator 97.

Alexander Sarnavskiy advanced to the semifinals with a quick first round submission victory over UFC-veteran Marcus Davis in the tournament’s opening round. He’s now won four straight fights since losing to Rich Clementi by split decision back in October of last year,in season seven’s lightweight tourney.

Ricardo Tirloni was a late replacement for injured Rob Sinclair, but still defeated Rich Clementi by unanimous decision to advance to the next round of this year’s 155-pound tournament. The win snapped two-fight losing steak, decision losses Dave Jansen and Will Brooks.

Joe Warren looked sharp after his first training camp with Greg Jackson, dispatching Nick Kirk in the second round with a reverse triangle/keylock submission to advance to this season’s 135-pound tournament finale. He’s now won two straight fights in the Bellator cage since losing his featherweight title to Pat Curran in March of last year.

Travis Marx earned his spot in this year’s bantamweight final with a second round TKO victory over Brandon Bender in the semifinals. Marx was a semifinalist in season six’s tournament with a win over Masakatsu Ueda in the opening round, but was eliminated by Marcos Galvao in the next round via decision.
