Benson Henderson returns for the first time since losing the UFC’s lightweight belt to Anthony Pettis at UFC 164, submitting to an armbar in the first round. The loss snapped a seven-fight win streak to begin his UFC career, following the UFC/WEC merger. Henderson won the 155-pound strap in February of 2012 and defended it three times before losing to Pettis.

Josh Thomson made his return to the UFC at UFC on FOX 7, stopping Nate Diaz in the second round via TKO. He’s won two of his last three fights, with his only defeat coming against former Strikeforce champion, Gilbert Melendez by a razor-thin split decision. Thompson was booked to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC on FOX 9, but a lingering injury to the champ forced him out of the bout.

Ben Henderson retained the UFC lightweight title following another controversial decision against Frank Edgar at UFC 150. Many believed Edgar won the first bout as well, when they met in February and Henderson won the title. Nevertheless, Henderson remains 5-0 in the UFC, since the UFC/WEC merger.

After losing two fights in a row, in the welterweight division, Nate Diaz returned to 155 lbs and put together his three best performances to date inside the octagon. Submission wins against Takanori Gomi and Jim Miller as well as a decision win against Donald Cerrone has earned Diaz a shot at UFC gold.
