Darren Elkins proved once again to be a difficult match-up for anyone, grinding out another unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 27, this time against Japanese grappling-ace Hatsu Hioki. He’s now amassed an impressive 7-2 record in the UFC, with losses only to Charles Oliveira and Chad Mendes. Other key victories for Elkins includes decision wins over Diego Brandao and Steven Siler.

Jeremy Stephens sky-rocketed up the featherweight rankings with a quick first round knockout victory over highly-touted Brazilian prospect, Rony Jason Bezerra at UFC Fight Night 32. It was his second straight win since dropping to the 145-pound division, including a dominant unanimous decision victory over Estevan Payan last May.

Darren Elkins took a short notice fight against Chad Mendes at UFC on FOX 7 and suffered a first round knockout loss, snapping a five-fight win streak. After going 1-1 as a lightweight, Elkins dropped to the 145 lb roster where he went on to win five consecutive bouts, including key wins over Diego Brandao, Steven Siler, and Antonio Carvalho.

Hatsu Hioki lost his second straight fight inside the octagon, after being on the wrong side of a controversial split decision loss to Clay Guida at UFC on FOX 6. He previously lost a clear-cut unanimous decision to Ricardo Lamas in June of last year, snapping a six-fight winning streak dating back to May of 2010.

Takeya Mizugaki won back-to-back fights for the first time during his tenure in Zuffa organizations, but not without controversy, winning a controversial split decision over Bryan Caraway at UFC on Fuel TV 8. Mizugaki made his WEC debut in April 2009, and has since traded wins and losses until defeating Jeff Hougland and Caraway consecutively.

Erik Perez has made a name for himself quickly in the UFC, earning three straight first round stoppage victories to begin his career in the promotion. He debuted in June of last year, submitting John Albert in the opening round with an armbar. Perez has since earned back-to-back knockout victories over Ken Stone and Byron Bloodworth.

Chad Mendes continued his climb up to number one contender status, with a stunning first round knockout of Yaotzin Meza at UFC of FX 6 in Australia. Even though he’s known for his wrestling, that was Mendes’ second straight knockout victory, also finishing Cody McKenzie with a punch to the body last July at UFC 148.

Darren Elkins continued his streak in the UFC featherweight division with a early-stoppage TKO victory over Antonio Carvalho at UFC 158. Despite the controversy, he’s now won fight straight fights in the UFC, including decision victories over Michihiro Omigawa, Diego Brandao, and Steven Siler.
