UFC veteran, Diego Nunes makes his second appearance in a Bellator tournament, following a quarterfinal exit in season nine after a first round knockout loss to eventual tourney winner, Patricio Freire. He’s lost three out his last four fights, including a unanimous decision loss to Nik Lentz in January of last year to prompt his release from the UFC.

Matt Bessette enters his first tournament on the heels of a current four-fight win streak, including two victories under the Bellator banner. Most recently, he defeated Nick Piedmont via first round knockout at Bellator 98.

Mike Richman fell just short on a bid for a world title, falling to Magomedrasul Khasbulaev by unanimous decision in season eight’s featherweight tournament final last April. He returned to the win column in November with a first round TKO victory over Akop Stepanyan at Bellator 106.

Desmond Green earned his first victory in Bellator last October, stopping Angelo Sanchez in the second round via TKO.He made his debut in season nine’s 145-pound tournament, but was eliminated in the quarterfinal by Fabricio Guerreiro.

Patricio Freire fell short on his bid to become a Bellator world champion, losing a hard fought split decision to Pat Curran at Bellator 85. The loss snapped a three-fight win streak, which included tournament victories over Georgi Karakhanyan, Wilson Reis, and Daniel Straus.

Diego Nunes was surprisingly released from his UFC contract following a unanimous decision loss to Nik Lentz at UFC on FX 7. Nunes went 3-3 during his time in the UFC, which included victories over Mike Brown, Manny Gamburyan, and Bart Palaszewski.

Much like Freire, Shahbulat Shamhalaev lost his chance on becoming Bellator’s featherweight champion, getting submitted in the first round by Pat Curran at Bellator 95. It was only his second career loss, and it ended a six-fight win streak which included tournament victories over Cody Bollinger, Mike Richman, and Rad Martinez.

Akop Stepanyan rebounded from a controversial majority decision loss to Marlon Sandro in the quarterfinals of season eight’s featherweight tourney, with a third round TKO win over Ultimate Fighter alumni Chris Saunders at Bellator 92.
