Gleison Tibau’s two-fight win streak came to a crashing stop at UFC 168, after a violent second round knockout loss to Michael Johnson. He had previously earned back-to-back victories over John Cholish and Jamie Varner. Tibau remains one of the longest running fighters in the UFC, fighting twenty-one times with the promotion since November 2006.

It didn’t have the fireworks as expected, but highly-touted Austrian newcomer, Mairbek Taisumov earned a dominant unanimous decision win over Tae Hyun Bang in his UFC debut. He’s won nine out of his last ten fights, including eight stoppage victories (4 KO/TKO, 4 Submissions).

Ronny Markes had a seven-fight win streak broken his last time out, following a third round knockout loss to rising star, Yoel Romero, at UFC Fight Night 31. He was previously undefeated in the UFC, including decision wins over Karlos Vemola, Aaron Simpson, and Andrew Craig.

Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2 alum, Thiago ‘Maretta’ Santos had a difficult task of facing Cezar Ferreira in his UFC debut on just a few weeks notice. Ultimately, he lost in just 47-seconds in to the opening round at UFC 163. Santos previously had defeated Denis Figueira da Silva in the first round via TKO at a Watch Out Combat Show event in Brazil.

Gleison Tibau earned his second straight victory in the octagon with a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Jamie Varner at UFC 164. He’s 6-2 in his last eight fights, including key wins over Rafael dos Anjos, Francisco Trinaldo, and John Cholish.

Michael Johnson looked the best he ever has in nine fights inside the octagon at UFC Fight Night 26, dominating Joe Lauzon for three rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory. That performance very well could have saved his roster spot in the UFC, previously losing back-to-back fights against Myles Jury and Reza Madadi.

Not long ago, Jamie Varner was thought to be on the back end of his career going just 1-4-1 in 2010 and most of 2011. He has since gone 4-1, including a huge upset win over Edson Barboza in his return to the UFC in May of last year. Varner most recently defeated Melvin Guillard in dominant fashion, but one judge insanely scored the fight for Guillard causing the split decision.

Gleison Tibau can’t seem to advance past the gatekeeper role in the UFC’s lightweight division. He went a perfect 3-0 in 2011, but has traded wins and losses since the streak ended at UFC 148 with a decision loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Last time out, Tibau submitted John Cholish in second round at UFC on FX 8.

At UFC 156, Gleison Tibau ended up on the wrong side of a closely contested split decision against Evan Dunham. The loss was his second in three fights, also losing a debatable decision to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 148. Tibau’s last victory came in October of last year, earning a decision victory over Francisco Trinaldo.

John Cholish was defeated for the first time in eight fights at UFC on FOX 3, when he lost a unanimous decision to Danny Castillo last May. Cholish won his UFC debut with a second round TKO finish of Mitch Clarke at UFC 140.
