Former number one contender, Thiago Alves return after a two-year layoff from the cage. He last competed at UFC on FX 2, when he was submitted by Martin Kampmann in the third round, in a fight in which he was dominating up until the finish. It was Alves’ second loss in three fights, only securing a submission victory over Papy Abedi at UFC 138.

Seth Baczynski returned back to the win column at UFC Fight Night 31, after scoring a dominant unanimous decision win over Neil Magny. He had previously lost back-t0-back fights, including a decision loss to Mike Pierce and a first round knockout defeat to Brian Melancon.

Josh Samman was victorious in his UFC debut, defeating Kevin Casey in the second round by TKO at the Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. He’s now won seven out of his last eight bouts, with all eight wins coming by way of stoppages. Samman returns from a yearlong absence from the sport, due to the untimely death of his girlfriend.

After a lackluster performance in his UFC debut, Caio Magalhaes has now won two consecutive fights in the octagon. He made his debut in June of 2012, losing a decision to Buddy Roberts, but has since won back-to-back bouts over Karlos Vemola and Nick Ring.

John Howard returns to the UFC for the first time since his release from the promotion in June of 2011. Over the past couple years, he’s amassed a 6-1 record on the regional circuit, including a first round knockout victory over Chris Woodall last month at a CES event.
