Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire once again finds himself one win away from a shot at the Bellator featherweight title. He’s cruised through season nine’s tourney with a first round knockout win over UFC-veteran Diego Nunes, and a decision victory over Fabricio Guerreiro. Freire has won two previous Bellator tournaments, but came up short against Joe Warren and Pat Curran to become their champion.

Long-time Strikeforce veteran, Justin Wilcox took a spot in the finale in his first career Bellator tournament, earning wins over Akop Stepanyan and Joe Taimanglo in the first two rounds. Wilcox went 5-2 in Strikeforce, but didn’t make the transfer to the UFC after back-to-back losses to Caros Fodor and Jorge Masvidal.

Eduardo Dantas was allowed to take a fight outside of the promotion last August, but that turned out to be a bad decision. He was upset in stunning fashion, knocked out by Tyson Nam in the first round for a Shooto Brazil event. The loss ended a seven fight win streak, which included Dantas’  rise to become Bellator’s bantamweight champion.

Marcos Galvao earned a shot at Bellator gold winning the sixth season’s bantamweight tournament. He earned unanimous decision victories over Ed West and Travis Marx in the opening rounds to secure his spot in the finale where he stopped Luis Alberto Nogueira in the second round via TKO.
