David Rickels fell short on his bid to win the Bellator lightweight title in July of last year, suffering a 44-second knockout loss against then-champion, Michael Chandler. Rickels won the season eight 155-pound tournament with three consecutive victories over Lloyd Woodard, Jason Fischer, and Saad Awad. He returned to action after his loss to Chandler at Bellator 103, earning a third round TKO win over JJ Ambrose in a tune-up fight last October.

Patricky Freire may have saved his spot on Bellator’s roster with a unanimous decision victory over Edson Berto at Bellator 107. He previously had lad lost three-straight fights, including stoppage losses to Lloyd Woodard and Eddie Alvarez, along with a decision loss to Derek Anderson.

Marcin Held enters a tournament for the third time in his Bellator career, losing once in the quarterfinals and once in the finale in previous attempts. He’s won six of his last seven fights, with his only defeat being the unanimous decision loss to Dave Jansen in the season seven tournament finale. Held last competed in September of last year, knocking out Ryan Healy in the first round at Bellator 101.

30-year old Brazilian lightweight, Rodrigo Cavalheiro Correia makes his United States debut on the heels of a current 10-fight win streak, nine of which he’s won by stoppages. His most notable victory came in July of last year when he knocked out fellow prospect, Alexandre Ramos, in the first round at Smash Fight 2.

Most recently, DeLorenzi earned a spot in this year’s tournament with a first round submission win over Jonny Carson at Bellator 79.

Patricky Friere was involved in one of this year’s most exciting rounds of MMA with Eddie Alvarez, in a fight that saw both fighters hurt on several occasions. Eventually, it was Alvarez earning a spectacular head kick knockout with only seconds remaining in the first round. Freire was eliminated in season six’s lightweight tournament quarterfinals after being submitted in the second round by Lloyd Woodward.

Thiago Michel Silva was eliminated in season six’s lightweight tournament in the semifinals after losing a razor-thin split decision to Brent Weedman. He defeated Rene Nazare in the opening round via split decision. Most recently, Michel took a fight on a regional Brazilian card, defeating David Gardner with a second round TKO finish.

Alexander Sarnavskiy suffered his first professional loss in the opening round of season six’s lightweight tournament with a split decision loss to Rich Clementi at Bellator 77. He recently rebounded nicely with a dominant unanimous decision victory over Tony Hervey in November.
