Ryan Couture took a big step up in competition in his UFC debut, meeting Ross Pearson at UFC on Fuel TV 9, but fell short after suffering a second round TKO loss. The loss snapped a four fight win streak, which included a questionable split decision victory over KJ Noons on the final Strikeforce card.

The Ultimate Fighter 15 runner-up, Al Iaquinta finally returns to the octagon after injuries have kept him out for over a year. Iaquinta was stopped by Michael Chiesa in the first round by submission on the show’s finale. Ross Pearson won arguably his biggest win of his career with a third round TKO victory over his rival, George Sotiropoulos at UFC on FX 6. The win was his first fight back in the lightweight division, after a one win, one loss experiment as a featherweight.

Ryan Couture earned a controversial split decision victory over KJ Noons in his final fight under the Strikeforce banner. In any manner, it extended his winning streak to four, also including victories over Conor Heun and Joe Duarte.

Tom Lawlor likely needs a win in order to keep his job in the UFC, posting just a 2-4 record in his last six fights in the octagon. Most recently, Lawlor dropped a split decision to rising middleweight Francis Carmont at UFC 154.

Dutch striker, Michael Kuiper looks for continued success in the UFC following his first win at UFC 150, earning a second round TKO victory over Jared Hamman. Kuiper fell short in this debut with the promotion, dropping a unanimous decision to Rafael Natal in February of this year.

Strikeforce: Melendez vs Healy

January 12th, 2013

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Chesapeake Energy Arena

——————————————————————–

Ryan Couture takes a big leap in competition on the heels of a three-fight win streak inside the Strikeforce cage. After a 2-0 start to his career, Couture suffered his first loss to the hands of Matt Ricehouse in June of 2011. He has since put together three consecutive victories together, including wins over Conor Heun and Joe Duarte.

KJ Noons has seen better times inside the cage, losing three of his last four fights in Strikeforce. Noons sky-rocketed up the rankings when he stopped Nick Diaz by TKO at an EliteXC event in November of 2007. He went on to win four more fights until losing to Nick Diaz in the rematch in October of 2010. Most recently, Noons suffered a unanimous decision loss to Josh Thomson at Strikeforce: Rousey vs Tate.
