Another injury to the UFC’s bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz, has forced him out his scheduled bout with interim champion, Renan Barao, at UFC 169. Cruz has been sidelined for over two years with two ACL tears and now a groin tear. This time he has vacated the UFC title and Renan Barao is now the unified UFC bantamweight champion. Number one contender, Urijah Faber, will replace Cruz on just three weeks notice.

Renan Barao defended his title for a second time at UFC 165, stopping Eddie Wineland in the second round via TKO. After losing his mixed martial arts debut, Barao has rattled off an unprecedented 31-straight victories in the cage. He defeated Urijah Faber by unanimous decision at UFC 149 to become the interim champion, and has since defended it successfully against Michael McDonald and Wineland.

Urijah Faber will get his third chance at a world title, on the heels of a current four fight winning streak. Since failing to claim the interim bantamweight title against Renan Barao in July of 2012, Faber has won four consecutive fights, including three submission victories over Ivan Menjivar, Scott Jorgensen, and Michael McDonald.

Abel Trujillo left no doubt in his rematch with Roger Bowling at UFC on FOX 9, stopping him in the second round with vicious punches up against the cage to earn the TKO finish. In their first meeting last August, the scene looked very similar, but the fight was overturned to a no contest, due to two illegal knee strikes from Trujillo.

Jamie Varner has traded wins and losses since his return to the UFC in May of last year, most recently losing a split decision to Gleison Tibau at UFC 164. Varner’s most notable victory was an upset first round TKO win over Edson Barboza at UFC 146.

In their first meeting last August, the scene looked very similar, but the fight was overturned to a no contest, due to two illegal knee strikes from Trujillo.

Clint Hester was looking sharp at UFC Fight Night 33, before a separated shoulder injury suffered by Dylan Andrews halted the bout after the second round. He’s now on a five fight win streak, including a third round knockout victory over Bristol Marunde in his UFC debut.

Ultimate Fighter 17 alum, Andy Enz, gets a shot in the UFC despite losing to the season’s eventual runner-up, Uriah Hall by unanimous decision in the elimination round. Officially, he’s 7-0 in his mixed martial arts career, with five wins coming by way of submission.

15-1 Russian lightweight prospect, Rashid Magomedov, makes his UFC debut on the heels of a current eight-fight win streak dating back to July of 2010. Key victories during the streak were decision wins over current UFC roster member, Igor Araujo and Yasubey Enomoto.
