Thiago Silva returned in April from a year-long suspension, handed out by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance following his fight with Brandon Vera. The long lay-off proved costly, being completely out-gunned by Alexander Gustafsson at UFC on Fuel TV 2, losing a one-sided unanimous decision.

Stanislav Nedkov remained undefeated in his UFC debut, stopping Luiz Cane by TKO in the first round at UFC 134. The win was his 12th victory in a row, also including wins over Travis Wiuff and Kevin Randleman

Mac Danzig likely saved his job in the UFC, with a unanimous decision over Efrain Escudero at UFC 145. The win was his second out of three fights, also knocking out Joe Stevenson in the first round back in December of last year. In between, Danzig lost a unanimous decision to Matt Wiman at UFC Live on Versus 6.

Takanori Gomi was successful in his return to Japan, defeating Eiji Mitsuoka by second round TKO at UFC 144. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak, suffering back-to-back submission losses to Clay Guida and Nate Diaz.
