Several months ago, Kelvin Gastelum was a virtual unknown, but after an appearance on the Ultimate Fighter and two fights in the UFC cage, he looks like one of the top prospects in the welterweight division. In April, Gastelum became the winner of the 17th season of TUF with an upset split decision victory over Uriah Hall in the show’s finale. He then followed that performance with an even better one at UFC Fight Night 27, stunning Brian Melancon on the feet, then getting the submission victory shortly after in the opening round.

Rick Story continues to trade wins and losses over the last year and half, most recently earning a dominant unanimous decision victory over Brian Ebersole at UFC 167. Other wins since June of 2012, include a decision win over Brock Jardine and a first round TKO victory over Quinn Mulhern. Losses include a submission defeat to Demian Maia and a controversial split decision loss to Mike Pyle at UFC 160.

Kelvin Gastelum surprised the MMA community with a hard fought split decision victory over heavy favorite, Uriah Hall in the Ultimate Fighter 17 finale. He now drops to the welterweight division for his sophomore appearance in the UFC. Gastelum is a perfect 6-0 since starting his MMA career in December of 2010, winning five of six by stoppages (3 TKO, 2 Submission).

Brian Melancon exploded on to the UFC scene with a buzzer beater first round knockout victory over Seth Baczynski at UFC 162. Ring rust was clearly not an issue, since his previous fight was nearly two years before that, when he earned a unanimous decision win over Felipe Portela at Strikeforce Challengers 19.

Uriah Hall had probably the most impressive run in the Ultimate Fighter history, winning all three bouts with stunning knockout stoppages. Most notably his spinning wheel kick knockout victory over Adam Cella in the opening round of the tournament. On his official record, he’s currently on a three-fight win streak, most recently earning a unanimous decision over fellow prospect Nodar Kuduxashvili at Ring of Combat 41.

Kelvin Gastelum was the last pick when deciding teams for the house and shocked everyone with straight stoppage victories over Bubba McDaniel, Collin Hart, and Josh Samman to earn a spot in the finale. On his official record he’s a perfect 5-0, with all five victories coming by way of stoppages (3 TKO, 2 submission).
